So. The Varsity Jacket. Also synonymous with baseball and lettermans, but not to be confused with bombers, which is really confusing when your jacket is labeled “Dugout Varsity Bomber.” Sigh. Come on fashion world – that’s just annoying. So annoying, that I took it upon myself to research the origins of both the Varsity jacket and the Bomber. In short, obvious, and ultra simple (the way I like most things in life)? Varsity jackets were designed for athletes, the bomber for aviators. Duh. And if it has a giant letter on it, it’s a letterman. Double duh. I’m not against invention; trying new fangled things, and successfully mixing elements of several different designs is applaudable, but calling that resulting design three different things? Stop that. It’s like being named Harriet Lucretious Ludwell the III. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Call me Harri, and let’s move on.
All that to say, I’m sticking with Varsity for this jacket because of the athletic-inspired detailing. More importantly…. I adore this jacket because it’s sooooo warm (sherpa lining!), yet not bulky! Double love.
Wearing:
Striped Heart Shirt: Madewell. Varsity Jacket: Madewell. Boyfriend Jeans: Mother Denim. Faux Fur Collar: ASOS (old – similar one by Hat Attack). Mules: F21.
Whatever you decide to call yours, may it keep you toasty warm, and sporty chic. 😉
